"Sunflower" watercolor 2006 16x20 framed |
In this painting, the woman in the background is the artist's interpretation of a Masterwork by Rogier van der Weyden. She represents every person in this piece. The sunflower is a symbol of power. The strawberries are symbols of righteousness and the teapot represents how we are vessels with gifts and Spirit. |

"Communicate" watercolor 2007 18x24 framed |
In this piece, the fish are symbols of Christ. The woman is inspired by a portrait done by Leonardo da Vinci. She is the "every-person" in this painting. She has a wireless phone in her ear representing how the world is always whispering in our head. One of the fish seems to be coming out of her mouth to show that despite the clamor in our heads, we must remember to speak only what is edifying to those around us. |
| "Flame" watercolor 2007 24x36 framed |
This painting is based on Georges De La Tour’s Magdala painting. I was inspired by Ephesians 5. The pairing of opposites and dichotomy interested me. The skull represents death, but the candle transposed in it represents the light and love of Christ. ”Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” The rabbit is a symbol of lust. I overlapped it with a white rose which represents purity in reference to the verse: “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.” The black bird is a symbol of the darkness of sin and the temptation of the flesh. Silver is a symbol of eloquence. I have it ‘bleeding’ into the bird to counteract its’ meaning in reference to: “Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.” The images of the lily (goodness), the strawberry (righteousness) and the white chrysanthemum (truth) are ‘flowing’ out of the lamp light. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

"Pearl Girl" watercolor 2007 28x22 framed (sold) |
This painting is based on Vermeer’s famous “Girl in a Turban” painting. She represents us all. The doves in her turban symbolize the Holy Spirit. The game board in her turban represents the world. So, both the Spirit and the world are in our heads. The toys falling down the side have no arms or legs and show how we all are out of control before Christ comes in our lives. The dove is flying to the rescue.

"Lily" watercolor 2006 16x20 framed |
In this piece, the lily is a symbol of purity. The woman in the back is the artist's interpretation of a painting by Petrus Christus called "Young Woman." She represents the "every person." The three peppers represent the Trinity and the coin is a reference to the Parable of the Lost Coin (Luke 15:8-10) and God's love for us. |
|
"Ermine" watercolor 2006 22x28 framed |
In this piece, the woman is from the painting by Leonardo da Vinci called "Lady with an Ermine." In my painting, she represents all of us. The teapot shows how we are vessels, and we hold gifts and our Spirit. How we hold or pour out what we have is up to us. The gerbera daisies are symbols of innocence. The pear is a symbol of the incarnation of Christ and the three lemons are a reference to the Trinity and faithfulness. The ermine is a symbol of purity because this little creature will do anything to prevent its fur from being defiled. |
|
"Chances" watercolor 2006 18x24 framed |
In this piece, the lemons are faithfulness. The figure is a detail from Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" and she represents mankind. The hibiscus is a symbol of opportunity and the bird represents God's providence. So, this piece is saying that God provides opportunities for us. We don't have to be afraid because He will take care of us since he is faithful.

"Closer" watercolor 2006 16x23 framed |
In this painting the background figure is from one of Leonardo da Vinci's studies. She represents us all. The pomegranate is a symbol of compassion and the strawberries symbolize righteousness. The teapot is the idea of being a vessel of what God gives you and to use your gifts for compassion on the way to righteousness. |
